Nora KAMM is a German saxophonist, flutist and composer. Recently she has been attracting attention on the French Jazz scene with her Trio “Dreisam”. Their album “Source” released in October 2014 has been highly rated in major French press, radio and television programmes (e.g Jazzman Magazine, Télématin, FIP Radio). Nora also won the Selmer Soloist Prize, awarded by Patrick Selmer during the Young Talents Competition 2014 at the Festival Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris.
Born in Frankfurt on the Main in Germany, Nora started playing the flute at the age of twelve and joined the Frankfurt brass philharmonic orchestra and five years later she discovered the saxophone and was charmed by Jazz music. Keen to learn and progress, she attended many master classes with renowned musicians such as Bobby Watson (USA), Scott Hamilton (USA) and Gilad Atzmon (UK).
Being equally fascinated by contemporary history, she studied this subject at the university in Freiburg which is where she started her professional music career by playing and recording with local musicians.
After moving to Lyon in 2010 she entered the Conservatory of Lyon and then the National Music School of Villeurbanne in order to study Jazz and composition. Nora quickly became one of the most in demand saxophonists in the region and one year later she also completed her master’s degree in contemporary history at the University of Lyon.
Her dexterity, passion and creativity are very much appreciated by her fellow musicians and these qualities grant her the opportunity to perform with a variety of famous artists. In 2013 she played in a duo with the British Saxophonist Andy Sheppard at the Opera of Lyon and worked as a sideman with the blues singers Donald Ray Johnson and Tino Gonzales (USA). Always striving to discover new horizons, Nora does not only play classical music with the Symphonic Orchestra of Confluences, but she also produces with musicians from African countries, like Princess Léo, Jean Sangally (Cameroon), and Bomboro Kosso (Burkina Faso).
One of her principal musical projects is the Jazz-Trio “Dreisam”, which she founded in 2011 together with the Brazilian drummer Zaza Desiderio and French pianist Camille Thouvenot. Their album “Source“, released in autumn 2014, was rewarded “Révélation!” in the Jazzman Magazine “Sélection” on FIP Radio (major Jazz Radio in France) and “Séléction Jazz” in the famous morning TV programme “Télématin” (France 2). “Dreisam” has been performing many concerts since then, including important national venues like “Jazz à Vienne”, “A Vaulx Jazz”, “Jazz en Touraine”, and the Sunside Jazz Club in Paris.
Recently she has founded the Nora Kamm Quartet reuniting some of the finest French Jazz musicians: Thibaud Saby (piano), Marc Michel (drums) and Yann Phayphet (bass).
